New Metalcore Music: Steel Trees

New metalcore music group Steel TreesIt’s been a while since we’ve posted anything metal on Seeds. In all honesty it’s hard to find a good metal band these days. Everyone seems to just fall into metalcore, and with few exception, metalcore bands all sound alike. Now I know what you metal-heads are thinking, “metalcore bands do not sound all alike, you just don’t know what you’re talking about”. Well, I’ve been a fan of metal since I was (predictably) 13, and I never stopped liking the genre. Metalcore bands today, however, all follow the same formula: verse-chorus-verse-breakdown-chorus-solo-chorus-end. It doesn’t matter if the musicians use different distortion, effects, scream differently; when you build songs the same way they all end up sounding the same. I’m a much bigger fan of bands that break from that path, and seeing as I only write about bands I like, well that doesn’t give a lot of leeway to the cookie cutter metalcore outfit. With that in mind, I have here an excellent band out of the UK. They’re called Steel Trees, and it’s bands like them that make metal still worthwhile.

Somewhere in between Down and Every Time I Die fall Steel Trees. These guys are a mixture of hardcore punk, metalcore, and doom metal with vocals that are comparable with Phil Anselmo, Peter Steele, and Keith Buckley. There isn’t anything I love more than awkward, almost carefree sounding guitars, and Steel Trees brings that to the table as well. These guys are heavy, fun, and energetic. Hell some of their songs even have a bit of a twang to them, which is even more surprising considering Steel Trees hails from jolly old England. Steel Trees aren’t cookie cutter by any means and have carved out a unique sound in a genre plagued by copy cats and pretenders.

Steel Trees is finishing up their debut album “Attack of the Stoner Zombie Killer Kids” which is set to drop in September. For any of our friends across the pond, they are also currently on tour in Northern England, so if you find yourself in Scotland or Sheffield, get your ass to one of their shows. Now check out some good metal for a change with Steel Trees single off of “Attack of the Stoner Zombie Killer Kids”, Deathbead Headsmash.
