New indie rock band Dead Leaf EchoWe’ve all heard “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, right? It really is hard to say that about a genre of music, seeing as how there is always going to be a difference of opinion on what is good and bad about a genre. Well indie rock today is no exception, but I would say, for the most part, indie rock ain’t broke. You might say that all the bands sound alike and that there is no real creativity in the genre since it went mainstream. Well, invisible devil’s advocate, this time it is you who is wrong! Check out Dead Leaf Echo and try to tell me there is no more creativity in the genre.

Dead Leaf Echo took the indie rock tenants set by bands like Joy Division and Interpol and mixed in ambiance and relaxing distortion of some lighter Deftones jams to create a sound unlike anything out there in the indie rock scene today. Honestly, these guys have the sound to take up Joy Division’s mantel. Inserting a fresh, yet familiar sound into the genre will create some variability and benefit the scene as a whole. Dead Leaf Echo are shaking things up and changing them for the better.

Hot off the presses is Dead Leaf Echo’s debut music video for their single Act of Truth, which came out only last week. Dead Leaf Echo has three EPs out now, Pale Fire (2008), Truth (2010), and a remix EP Verisimilitude(2011). Check out Act of Truth off of “Truth” and change up your indie rock tunes.
