New Hard Americana Music: Marc Blackwell

New hard americana artist Marc BlackwellDo you remember that good old American pop rock from the 60s, that hard Americana of days gone by? I’m talking about that folky, grimey, Americana sound of Guess Who, The Contours, and Lovin’ Spoonful. OK, so Guess Who is actually Canadian, but you get the idea. That iconic sound seemingly died with these bands or evolved into the inferior hard country music that exists today. Well Marc Blackwell is determined to bringing hard Americana back from the dead, and the genre could not have asked for a better champion.

Coming from the heartland of the nation, Marc Blackwell has been hard at work for the last 11 years, touring and perfecting his craft in the Midwest. This Illinois boy started his solo career in 2005 and has been pumping out that sweet, grimey sound ever since. Marc Blackwell’s voice is perfect; deep and rough; his guitar, smooth and commanding. Blackwell breaks you down and melts the parts with the messy rough funk new Americana you’ve been missing for 40 years.

Marc Blackwell released his debut album, Bring Me Trouble, May of last year. If you long for those good old days of hard Americana then you need to check out Marc Blackwell. Here’s the title track from his debut album, Bring Me Trouble. Fall back in love with this lost art, and if you don’t know it, find out.

Seeds's veteran of press, Dave has covered music, culture, and news for a variety of publications. He has a genre-defying editorial perspective, covering everything from J-Pop to Norwegian Death Metal.

“Bring me trouble’” has got the coolest dark hip vocal tone out there , tracks got soul funk and a latin tinge here and there, just about everything we dig in real music :)
