New Acoustic Punk Music: Bad Bad Meow

Acoustic punk is almost certainly one of the most underrated genres out there. Honestly, how many of you have heard of it before? And no, I’m not talking about Green Day any time they decide to strap on some acoustic guitars and let loose ballad. No, I’m talking about Bad Bad Meow.
Bad Bad Meow embodies everything I love about punk: a complete disregard for the tenants of pop music. Dissonance, loud and awkward rhythms, and noise are their tools, and they are masters of their craft. Take two parts The Pixies, one part Minor Threat, and a dash of Every Time I Die and you have an idea of Bad Bad Meow’s sound. Oh, but don’t forget they play almost exclusively in acoustic. And did I mention they throw in country and southern rock influences as well? Yeah, that’s right, Bad Bad Meow includes slide guitars and bluesy riffs to give a distinct country feel to their acoustic punk. Slide in some bluesy White Stripes into that combination and you have a recipe for the best acoustic punk out there; you have Bad Bad Meow.
Bad Bad Meow have an album out now called “Big Phat Pussycat”. Check it out now and get some acoustic punk in your life. Listen to “Run Through the Middle” off that album and try to tell me you don’t some more.
