New Singer/Songwriter Music: Kalen

It’s a beautiful thing when a new singer/songwriter takes her lyrics seriously. It’s even more beautiful when she masters lyricism and blends it perfectly with instrumentation. Want an example? Of course you do; how about Kalen.

Kalen is bluesy, jazzy, and soulful. She mixes exotic rhythms and instrumentation with jazz piano and guitar. Every song is a poem, and be it about love or politics, every poem is passionate and emotionally charged. Kalen’s brilliantly soulful voice is a perfect match for her spectacular lyricism.

Kalen has various projects in the works, but as a solo artist she has two albums out, “Fairy Tales, Fantasies, and Other Mistakes” (2005) and “Honky Tonk Hip Hop” (2007).
