New Hip-Hop Music: The High Life

New hip hop group The High LifeI am honestly shocked with how bad rap is on the radio and in the mainstream. Not a week ago I went to grab some lunch with my brother and we lamented at the state of hip-hop as Hot 97 blasted some of the worst excuse for rap I’ve ever heard. Why am I shocked? Well it’s not like there isn’t any good new hip-hop out there. Case in point: The High Life.

Don’t let their some-what cliché name fool you, these guys are nasty. This five-piece set is everything that is missing from hip-hop today: great flow, solid lyrics, and dirty beats. With production that makes everything sound clear as day, The High Life have all the right moves.

The High Life released their debut EP, Iller, in October of last year. If you don’t know what good hip-hop sounds like, well pop in The High Life and their single We Came to Rock; listen and learn.
